MATERIALS NEEDED

  • 1 coated or glazed ceramic cube potter (we got ours here)
  • Laser engraver (we used our Epilog Fusion)
  • Graphic design software (we run CorelDraw classes throughout the year)

STEP 1: PREPARE ARTWORK

Download our design to get started! For this design we are going to laser engrave a floral pattern on each side of the square pot.

Open the artwork files and customise as necessary to suit your item size and position as required.

STEP 2: SET UP PLANTER POT

Place the square inside the laser, on the side you wish to laser.

STEP 3: PRINT JOB

We used the following print settings on our Epilog Laser Fusion M2

STEP 4: REPEAT

Now that you have set up the print settings and the job correctly, turn the cube and laser the next side, if you wish.

STEP 6: WIPE RESIDUE AND DISPLAY!

Depending on the wattage and print settings on your laser, your result may be lighter or darker. Essentially, laser engraving coated ceramic like we have, removes the coating and reveals whatever colour is underneath.

There are some ceramics that are made specifically for laser marking, which results in a high-contrast finish.

Alternatively, laser engraving on regular ceramic (not coated), would generally leave a low-contrast finish.

We recommend doing a test on your ceramic to see what finish you will get.
