LASER CUT & ENGRAVED
WORLD MAP PUZZLE
This versatile project can be created with a variety of materials and colours. Larger pieces are suitable for children, or choose to cut each country individually to increase puzzle difficulty.
These puzzles can be sold online, in gift shops, in travel shops, branded or customised to suit your client.
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Bamboo sheet
- Acrylic sheet (we used our new pastel blue acrylic!)
- Laser engraver (we used our Epilog Fusion Pro)
- Graphic design software (we run CorelDraw classes throughout the year)
Download the graphics above and import it into your graphic software. You will see that there are 2 pages in the file.
1. Base board is the artwork we are going to use to engrave the bamboo base, where the puzzle pieces will fit into.
2. Continents is the artwork we are going to use to cut and engrave the acrylic puzzle pieces.
For now we’re just using the first page – the base board for the bamboo sheet.
Make adjustments as necessary.
Align the bamboo sheet on your laser bed.
Send the job to the laser with the correct parameters for your machine wattage.
We want to make the engraving deep enough for the puzzle pieces to fit into.
Next, we’re going to cut and engrave the puzzle pieces.
Open the second graphic file named Continents provided. The second page in the artwork for the puzzle pieces.
Make adjustments as necessary.
We will be cutting out the puzzle pieces, and also engraving the country lines into the acrylic.
Note the print settings in the screenshot. These will depend on your laser system.
Arrange the acrylic sheet onto your laser bed and send the job to the laser with the correct parameters for your machine wattage.
You now have the bamboo base and the continent puzzle pieces.
The acrylic puzzle pieces should fit easily into the bamboo base – et voila!
