How long have you been working at Alfex CNC Australia?

Since April 2016!

What did you do before you started with Alfex?

I will still in sales but in the heavy transport industry. Actually, my background is a mechanical draftsman. I was a draftsperson before moving into sales.

What drew you to Alfex originally?
Two reasons. First, I wanted a change of industry from where I was. Second I was interested in the laser and CNC industry. My dad is a fitter and turner by trade, so I was already very familiar with the industry. My dad was the manual, old-school fitter and turner so I grew up around CNCs all my life. So that’s what drew me to this industry.

It’s amazing that now the lathes are operated all by computer before you had to do everything manually!

What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I was a bartender many, many years ago! The hours were midnight until 7am… so I got to see a wide range of weird and wonderful people!

How would you describe working at Alfex?

As a small business, I would say they are extremely professional. I love working here because there is great staff morale and they’re just good people to work with and work for.

What is your proudest moment at Alfex?

I would say the first customer that purchased a machine based on my advice. Coming in green and not knowing much about the products, I still wanted to be able to give customers a great experience – if I didn’t know specific technical term or spec, I would find out. I had extensive training, and with guidance from Christian and Jordan, I learned quickly. I’m still in touch with that customer, and they have been so happy with their investment. I would say this was a great achievement.

How do you balance your career at Alfex and family?

With two little girls, home life can get a bit crazy! My gorgeous daughters keep me on my toes, on the weekend we are often busy with kids activities. During the week, the work day is always jam-packed. I try to get as much done during the day at work, so I don’t have to take work home with me. I try to limit that, so when I’m home I can spend time with my girls.

What is on your bucket list?

House and holiday. Buying a family home and going on a decent family holiday. Europe or America again… Tina (my wife) wants to go to Romania as she’s always been fascinated with Eastern European architecture. So we’d definitely go there!

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.

Dogs are a big part of my life. I have two 4-year-old husky’s, Jedi and Zion. I’ve always had dogs as a kid but never had huskies before. This was the one breed that both Tina and I agreed on. They are a lot of work, I spend a lot of time walking, grooming,  maintaining and playing with them. They are beautiful dogs.

What’s the best vacation you’ve been on and why?

My favourite holiday would have to be when I went to America. It wasn’t expected to be that great but turned out to be the best. Tina and I had planned to travel across America for 3-4 months… and ended up extending it to 6 months! We started on the west coast in California and traveled all the way to New York on the east coast.

One of the most memorable moments was when I proposed to Tina in Nevada. I had organised a helicopter ride from Vegas to the Grand Canyon… and halfway there the pilot tells us we need to go back because there are 3 storms up ahead. I had the ring in my pocket and everything, but we turned back. A few days later when the storm died down,  we went again and everything went smoothly.
