This month we caught up with Marshall Philps, Alfex CNC Australia Haas Service Coordinator. Marshall worked with us for over 10 years, took a break for 4 years and has just started back with us again in 2018. We are excited to have him back!

How long have you been at Alfex CNC Australia?
With Alfex for 10 years then took a break for 4 years and come back to Alfex. I love the Haas product always have and a good opportunity for me professionally and a good group of people.

How would you describe Alfex in 3 words? Positive, forward-thinking, family-oriented

What has surprised you most about working at Alfex? How supportive they are of their staff.

What has been your favourite project at Alfex? I had a lot of fun at RMC (Reliance World Wide) when they were doing things out of the box. One thing I enjoyed working on is when they were fitting up a robot to their VS2 for mass production.

Tell me about some of the people you’ve met while working at Alfex. Met heaps of people! Some of the customers have become really good friends of mine. It has really been a privilege to meet some really wonderful people.

Before working at Alfex, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? Used to be a team leader at the Toowoomba Boundary. We had a group of CNC machines (used be called cells) and I supervised 2 shifts of 18 people each. It was a rewarding role, but when you’re managing that many people it does become interesting and have its challenges too.

What are you passionate about? I’m generally passionate about anything with 2 wheels – motorbikes, adventure riding, caravanning.

What is the 1 thing in this world you are most proud of? Most proud of my children – I know everyone says kids, but they are really good all-round people. Couldn’t be prouder.

How do you balance your career with Alfex and family? I’m lucky now that the kids are grown up so I can give everything to the company which is good and a nice place to be – where I’ve done my job, the kids are all old enough! It’s nice to be able to concentrate on something for me.

What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? A new house down in Manly, so we can walk dogs near the water!

What have you gained from working at Alfex? I’ve gained self-confidence and self-achievement. I love helping people so I’m in a good role for that. Pretty rewarding.
