Many of you will have spoken to our lovely Michelle over the phone or email! This month we sat down with her over a coffee to get to know the key person behind the accounts department.

When did you get started with Alfex CNC Australia?
I started in 2017.

What did you do before you started with Alfex?
I was working in accounts management and payroll in the electronics industry. I worked for that company for 15 years, and when the director retired he sold the business.

It was then that I saw the advert for Alfex, and I was really drawn to the way the ad was written.

When I started here, I found that we had many of the same customers from my previous company! So I would constantly receive reply emails from my previous contacts saying “hello, do you remember me?” which was really nice.

How would you describe Alfex in 3 words?
Fun working environment. For me I would say that it’s not only important to like what you do, but like the environment that you’re in. We have a great team in the office, they really crack me up! We all get along very well and it’s nice to come in everyday and have that banter.

What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I was a loss-prevention officer for Coles/ K-mart.  Essentially it was my job to highlight areas that could cause loss to the company. That included picking up shoplifters. It was a fairly stressful job, but I did learn to be very observant.

Tell us about a project you’ve worked on that you’re proud of.
Shortly after I started with Alfex we changed systems, which was a huge project as it affected all departments. I worked with the implementation team to advise what was needed from an accounts and reporting viewpoint. It was very satisfying to see how my input has allowed the system to be adapted and consequently improved our processes.

How do you balance your career at Alfex and family?
My husband and I like travel when we get an opportunity… Our 2 grown children can fend for themselves! We’ve recently been on annual cruises back to back for the last few years. Last year we did Pacific Islands cruise and this year we’re going to New Zealand which I’m really looking forward to.

If you won lotto what would you buy?
Houses for my kids (so they can move out!) haha

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
My favourite pastime is water sports! As a child, I grew up swimming. When I met my husband we got into water skiing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding. We raised our children the same way and they love it too!
